Tadalafil (generic Cialis) is an FDA-prescribed treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). It’s a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor that causes vasodilatation (blood vessel expansion) in the penis, resulting in fuller and longer-lasting erections.
Important Safety Information for Generic of Cialis® (tadalafil)

Taking Tadalafil
The advantage of Tadalafil is you can take it on your own (orally), with or without food. One thing to keep in mind is to avoid (excessive) alcohol consumption while taking this medication.
There are two ways to take Tadalafil:
- Daily – Our medical professionals generally prescribe a daily amount, meaning you take one Tadalafil dose every day, whether you plan on having sex or not. We recommend you take it at the same time each day for maximum effect.
- When Required – if you are taking Tadalafil pills as required, make sure you take it 30 to 60 minutes before you plan on engaging in sexual activity.
*Tadalafil itself won’t cause an erection, but it will be easier to get one as a result of sexual arousal.
Before Starting MdDirect Tadalafil Treatment
Since Tadalafil may interact with other medications, you need to tell our medical team all the medications you have previously taken, along with current prescriptions.
Medications that might impact Tadalafil:
- CYP3A4 inhibitors – CYP3A4 inhibitors include antibacterials, anticancer, anti-HIV agents, antihypertensives, sex steroids etc.
- Nitrates
- Alpha-blockers
- Antihypertensives
Alcohol is, of course, not a medication, but you should not engage in excessive drinking when taking Tadalafil since it may lead to sudden drops in blood pressure.
Besides sharing the medication you are currently on, you should also share your complete medical history. We require details of the following:
- Cardiovascular diseases and blood vessel problems
- A history of ventricular obstructions
- Varying blood pressure
- Myocardial infarction
- Cardiac failure
- Stroke
- Bleeding disorders
- Kidney and/or liver problems
- Pulmonary diseases
- Retinitis
When Not To Take Tadalafil
There are certain cases where, even if you don’t have an existing medical condition, you should not take Tadalafil:
- If you are allergic to Tadalafil
- If you are taking nitrites in any form
- If you are taking guanylate cyclase stimulators
Tadalafil Side Effects
Like other medications, taking Tadalafil may cause mild side effects:
- Headache
- Back pain
- Problems with digestion
- Flushing
- Nasal congestions
- Muscle pains
These are mild issues, but keep an eye on them and, if they persist, talk to a medical professional.
Severe Side Effects
Severe side effects from Tadalafil are rare, but if the following symptoms occur, seek immediate medical attention.
- Cardiovascular problems during sexual activity (after taking Tadalafil)
- Prolonged erection. Tadalafil enables fuller and longer-lasting erections, but if your erection lasts more than 4 hours, you need to seek medical help
- Temporary vision loss – (rare) but if you experience vision loss (in one or both eyes at the same time), stop taking Tadalafil and speak to your doctor as soon as you regain vision
- Temporary hearing loss – this can be serious. If you notice hearing problems, speak to your doctor immediately
- Kidney problems – pay attention to poor appetite, swollen ankles, feets or hands, shortness of breath, blood in urine, itchy skin etc. If these symptoms continue to persist, you should pay a visit to a nephrologist (medical professional specializing in kidney problems)
