How Should You Take Sildenafil?
Like Tadalafil, Sildenafil can be taken with or without food, ideally 30 to 60 minutes before planned sexual activity. The medication is taken orally, so you can take it on your own, any time of the day (although you should take it at the same time of the day, if possible).
*Never take more than one dose within 24 hours, and do not have other ED medication while you are on Sildenafil.
*Make sure you take Sildenafil medication exactly as prescribed; do not increase or reduce your dose, without consulting a medical professional. If your symptoms are not improving and you feel the medication is not working as intended, first talk to a health provider.

- Nitrates
- Alpha-blockers
- Antihypertensives
- CYP3A4 inhibitors (Ritonavir, Ketoconazole, Itraconazole etc.)

When Not To Take Sildenafil
You should not take Sildenafil:
- Allergies – if you are allergic to this drug, do not use it
- Nitric oxide donors – taking Sildenafil may increase your blood pressure, so it can lower the effects of nitrates
- Guanylate cyclase stimulators – this group of medication is used to reduce heart failure and cardiovascular death. Taking Sildenafil may disrupt their effect since it increases blood pressure

Severe side effects:
- Prolonged erections – Sildenafil is meant to make your erection fuller and longer-lasting, but if your erection does not subside in 4 hours, you should seek medical help.
- Cardiovascular risks during sexual activity – if cardiovascular health is preventing you from having sex, you should not try to force it by engaging in Sildenafil therapy.
- Hearing or sight loss – if you experience short-term hearing or sight loss, you should stop taking the medication straight away and contact your doctor.
- Sudden drop in blood pressure – if you’re taking another blood pressure lowering medication, it may interact with Sildenafil and result in a sudden blood pressure drop. Monitoring your blood pressure is crucial. Other signs of low blood pressure include dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting.
- STDs – Sildenafil does not cause STDs, nor will it protect you from it.
